JollyGringo'z is Landon and Chris. Everything else - the band, the bottles, the mantra - grew out of one thing we never had to work at.
RiverKingz = JollyGringo'z
We met in high school and we have been friends and played music together for more than twenty five years. RiverKingz is the band. The other thing we have always had in common is cooking, and that is what turned into JollyGringo'z.
Two decades of shows, road trips and green rooms will tell you pretty quick who someone really is. We just happened to also both be the guy at the party standing over the grill.
Most of this started as an accident
We love the Gulf Coast and we love good food. Most weekends one of us is at a grill or a stove trying something that may or may not work, and a lot of these bottles started life as a batch we could not stop eating.
That is pretty much how we do everything. Whatever we give our time to, we give it our all, and this business gets our best. If our name is on a bottle then we have cooked with it, tasted it, changed it and cooked with it again.
Most of the shelf is salt. We went the other way
A supermarket all purpose seasoning runs 35 to 50 percent salt. It is the cheapest ingredient in the jar, so it is the one that fills it. That is why you can only ever dust with them, and why so much of the shelf tastes the same.
Our all purpose sits at 10 percent salt, the blackening at 9, and the savoury weight comes from garlic, tomato and mushroom powder instead. A written formulation and a taste panel behind every bottle. Small batches, inspired by the Gulf Coast.
